Vargas is a federal agency that is part of Venezuela. It is considered the gateway to the country, and therein lies one of the most important ports and airports in the nation. Occupies a thin strip of territory in the central region of the coast on the Caribbean Sea. Its geography is predominantly shirt, although Waraira Repano National Park stretches across the southern flank of its territory, creating areas of cliffs that plunge directly into the sea.
Its capital is La Guaira, city name often given to the unofficial metropolitan area in the geographic center of the state (the deCaraballeda parishes, Catia La Mar, Messenger and Maiquetia), also known as "Central Coast" or simply the "Litoral ".
The current population is about 300,000 inhabitants located. The 100,000 people of Catia La Mar represent about one third of the population, is home to La Guaira and Maiquetia 20,000 to 25,000 60,000 to 80,000. The bulk of the population is concentrated in the metropolitan area in the center of the state, which in turn is part of the Greater Caracas, the number of inhabitants of the rest of the territory is smaller and predominantly rural character.

Before becoming the latest federal state of Venezuela in 1998, was a municipality in the now-defunct Federal District, characterized by a high population density plus a level of economic and human also above average development of the country.
